Vetted access for researchers and journalists
The public lookup on AsbestosIQ is deliberately narrow. It answers the question a patient or a bereaved family arrives with, and stops there. Broader inferential work, the kind that asks questions across the whole register rather than about a single employer, needs a human in the loop. That is what this route is for.
Patients and their families use the public site directly. Asbestos solicitors apply through AsbestosIQ Pro. Everyone else, the academics and journalists and policy people, comes through here.
Who this is for
Academic researchers working on occupational disease, industrial history or environmental epidemiology. Journalists on a defined investigation. Policy researchers inside think tanks, charities or statutory bodies. Coroners' officers and regulators with a specific remit. We are not the right venue for student dissertations with no supervisor, or for speculative trawls.
How we vet
Write from an institutional email. Tell us, in a paragraph, what you intend to do with the data and what you intend to publish. Include a sample query so we can see the shape of the question. We review on a rolling basis, usually within a fortnight, and we run a short due-diligence check on intended use before approval. Where the work touches living claimants or sensitive bereavement cases we may ask for an ethics letter or an editorial standards note.
We turn people down when the brief is too vague to evaluate, when the same answer is available from ONS or HSE without our help, or when the intended use looks like adverse profiling of named individuals. We say so plainly and suggest a better source where we can.
What you get
Read-only access to the same research surfaces Pro users see, under a separate researcher role and scoped to the query area we agree in advance. You get the resolved employer graph, the Gazette and Case Law evidence, insurer and run-off acquisition history, and the deep-research agent. You do not get bulk export, you do not get the Pro settlement-contribution surfaces, and your account is logged and audited.
Approved accounts are time-boxed to the agreed project. Renewal is a fresh conversation, not automatic.
Email research@asbestosiq.com with a one-paragraph intent statement, your institutional affiliation, and a sample query. We'll come back to you.
